Arguably one of the most versatile Indian singers of his generation, a music director, an actor, and the owner of the voice that rules millions of hearts; Sonu Nigam is a name everyone is well versed within the domestic and as well as over the international boundaries. In his diverse career spanning over three decades and still counting, Sonu Nigam has predominantly worked in Hindi and Kannada language films but he has also sung songs in Bengali, Gujarati, Tamil, Telegu, Marathi, Nepali, Malayalam, and Tulu amongst other Indian languages. 

Born on the 30th Of July 1973 to Agam Kumar Nigam and Shobha Nigam in the Faridabad city of Haryana. He started singing at the age of four when he accompanied his father to a wedding and sang the song “Kya Hua Tera Wada” with his father. After that Sonu Nigam would go to different weddings and parties accompanying his dad’s presence and sing with him. He started getting trained in Indian Classical Music by Ustad Gulam Mustafa Khan and relocated to Mumbai with his father to start his music career in Bollywood at the age of 19. 

After the release of his first song “O Aasmaan Wale” from the movie “Aaja Meri Jaan” in 1993, his music career kickstarted and Nigam soon got loaded with work. His first album came out in 1993 called “Rafi Ki Yaadien” which established his feet in the industry. He worked in movies like Hulchul (1994), Gaddar (1995), Hero No. 1 (1997), Dulhe Raaja (1998), Dil Se (1998), Sarfarosh (1999), Sooryavansham (1999) amongst others. But it was his hit song “Yeh Dil Deewana” from the movie Pardes (1997), and Sandesh Aate Hai from the movie Border in 1997 that blew up his career, establishing him as one of the leading singers.  

His chartbuster songs with Sajid-Wajid like Ab Mujhe Raat Din, and Is Kadar Pyaar Hai were being played on the loop in every radio station, the music videos would feature top models of that time like Milind Soman, Michelle Inns also helped increase the popularity even more. Bollywood and India were starting to fall in love with Sonu Nigam.  

Satrangi Re, Tanhaayee, Suraj Hua Maddham, Kal Ho Na Ho, Saathiyaa, Sarfaroshi Ki Tamanna, Kyon Hawa, Tumse Milke Dil Hai Jo Haal, Kismat Se Tum Humko Mile Ho, Kitni Narmi Se, Rehna Hai Tere Dil Mein, Dheere Jalna, Main Agar Kahu Tumsa Haseen, Inn Lamho Ke Daman Ne, Jaane Nahi Denge Tujhe, Abhi Mujh Mein Kahi, Mana Ke Hum Yaar Nahi, Love Is A Waste Of Time, Mujhe Raat Dinn Bas, Mere Haath Mein, Pal Pal Har Pal, Dil Dooba, Sapna Jahan, Tumhi Dekho Naa, You’re My Soniya, amongst hundreds upon hundreds of other songs that were sung by Sonu Nigam and gained tremendous popularity.  

Sonu Nigam has won over 30 awards and accolades in his three-decades-long and still running career. He has won multiple Zee Cine Awards for Best Male Playback singer, multiple IIFA Best Male Playback Award, multiple Filmfare Awards for Best Male Playback, National Film Award for Best Male Playback Singer, he won the Global Indian Music Award for Best Live Performance, as well as in 2020 he was honored with Dr. Ambedkar Award is given by the Government Of India.
