The Indian musician, singer, and actor who is best known for his performances in Hindi devotional songs and Bhajans, Anup Jalota is popularly known as the Bhajan Samraat (Emperor Of Bhajans). 

Born on the 29th of July 1953 in Nainital, Uttrakhand, he hails from the Sham Chowrasi Gharana Of Punjab. He has received professional training in classical music and he attended Lucknow’s Bhatkhande Music Institute. Anup Jalota took after his father Purshottam Das Jalota who was also a prominent Bhajan singer of his time. After completing his professional training and education back in Lucknow, Anup Jalota started his musical career as a chorus singer for All India Radio. In his usual style of singing, Anup Jalota is usually backed by a Santoor player, a Sarod player, a Dholak player, a Sarangi player, a Sitaar player, a Violinist, a Tabla player, and a Guitarist.

He has sung quite a few of the most popular Hindi devotional songs and some of his popular bhajans include; Aisi Lagi Lagan, Mai Nahi Makhhan Khaayo, Jag Mein Sundar Hai Do Naam, Rang De Chunariya, Chadariya Jhini Re Jhini, Mere Mann Me Ram, Shree Hanuman Chalisa, Mere Kabr Par Pate Huye, Kategi Yeh Zindagi Ab Rote Rote, Laaga Chunari Mein Daag, amongst many others. Along with singing devotional songs, Anup Jalota has also been a presenter for the program Dharam Aur Hum which was telecasted on Starplus between 2002 to 2005.

In 2008, Anup Jalota recorded the song “Golden Memorable Yaadien” for the album “Noorani Chehra” produced by Shaukat Kassam to commemorate the Golden Jubilee of Aga Khan, which was a great success. He also released several CDs in collaboration with Jagadguru Shree Kripaluji Maharaj.  

In 2012, the Padma Shri has been conferred upon him in the field of Art-Indian Classical Music-Vocal by the Government Of India.
