Born on the 8th of July, 1958 as Harneet Kaur, Neetu Singh started her acting career at the young age of 6 as a child artist in the film Suraj in 1966 by Swashbuckler, Dus Laakh (1966), and Waris (1969). She then went on to play a double role in the romantic comedy film Do Kaliyaan in 1968. As a junior artist, Neetu Singh was often known as Baby Sonia. 

She transitioned into mature roles with vigilante justice film Rickshawala in 1973, opposite Randhir Kapoor but her breakthrough role came as Nasir Hussain’s Masala film Yaadon Ki Baraat in 1973 in which she appeared as a dancer, which also markets her official credits as Neetu Singh. From then, Neetu Singh went on to work in some prominent crime drama films like Deewaar (1975), Khel Khel Mein (1975) which was a thriller, Rafoo Chakkar (1975) starring opposite Rishi Kapoor, the musical film Kabhie Kabhie (1976), Shankar Dada (1976) opposite Shashi Kapoor, Maha Chor (1976) starring opposite Rajesh Khanna, the masala comedy film Amar Akbar Anthony (1977), the fantasy drama Dharam Veer (1977) starring opposite Jeetendra, Parvarish (1977) starring opposite Amitabh Bachchan, the horror film Jani Dushman (1979), the disaster film Kaala Patthar (1979), and Yaraana (1981) amongst others. 

Amar Akbar Anthony, Dharam Veer, and Parvarish ranked among the top five grossing films of the year and established Neetu Singh as one of the top Bollywood actresses in the 1960s, 70s, and early 80s.  

For the next couple of years after her massive success, Neetu Singh worked as a solo female lead in movies like Priyatam, Maha Badmaash, Dhongi, Chorni, Kasme Vaade. She also featured in a few of the popular films like The Burning Train (1980), Yaarana (1981), and Teesri Aankh (1982).  

Working in movies led to her off-screen romance with the famous Bollywood actor Rishi Kapoor, whom she married in 1980 after which Neetu Kapoor retired from acting. Her last film was 1983’s Ganga Meri Maa. Although 25 years post her retirement, Neetu Singh now Kapoor, made a couple of cameo roles in movies like Jab Tak hai Jaan, Love Aaj Kal, Do Dooni Chaar, and Besharam, always starring opposite her husband late Rishi Kapoor who died in 2020.

Neetu Kapoor won the Best Film Award for Best Feature Film in Hindi for her cameo in the movie Do Dooni Chaar (2010) and she was also nominated for Filmfare Award For Best Supporting Actress for the film Kaala Patthar in 1979.
