Biography

The best known singer in the Telugu film industry this prolific singer was born on in a small village in Andhra Pradesh. SPB�s father was a renowned exponent of Harikatha. This probably influenced his taking up singing as a hobby. He also developed an interest in instruments studied notations on his own and learnt to play the flute and harmonium.

SPB was a good student and did well at school

but music seemed to be his real calling. The year 1964 turned out to be a turning point for him when a Madras-based Telugu organization organized a music competition for amateur singers and SPB won the first prize.

S.P.Balasubramanyam�s vocal skills range style and technique are outstanding and this brought him to the notice of music director S.P. Kodandapani. SPB made his film debut in 1966 with Sri Sri Sri Maryada Ramanna. This movie brought him instant fame and offers started pouring in from all over the south.

His big breakthrough in the Tamil film industry happened with the MGR film Aayiram Nilavevaa. This movie turned SPB into a one-man industry. There was no looking back after this. Even though he started his career in Telugu films by and by he conquered the Tamil Kannada and Malayalam film industries as well as he went on delivering huge musical hits. In fact he monopolised the South Indian film music industry for more than 15 years.
