Biography

Shaan is a popular playback singer and stage performer. His father Manas Mukerjee was a well- known music director and his sister Sagarika is also a renowned singer. Shaan started his musical career in his early teens by singing ad jingles. He also lent his voice to the song �Kitni pyari hai dosti hamari� in the film Parinda (1987).

His real breakthrough came with his debut album Q-funk.

In this remix album along with other R. D. Burman hits the song �Roop tera mastana� turned out to be extremely popular. Q-funk was followed by another solo album Love-o-logy but it failed to make a similar impact. Around the same time Shaan and his sister jointly released the album Naujawan that was popular with the public.

Shaan�s career took a big leap after the release of his album Tanha Dil (2000). The album won him the MTV Music Awards Asia for the Best Solo Album. His next album Aksar featuring international stars like Blue Mel C and Samira Said is considered to be a masterpiece in the genre of Indipop. This was the first album in which Shaan contributed to every aspect of the songs; singing writing lyrics and composing.

Alongside his career in playback also took off. He has lent his voice to films like Pyaar Mein Kabhi Kabhi Lakshya Dil Chahta Hai Kal Ho Na Ho Hum Tum Dhoom Dus Salaam Namaste Don - The Chase Begins Again Fanaa and Kabhi Alvida Naa Kehna. He is also a popular anchor on many major television shows like Sa Re Ga Ma Pa on Zee TV. He won the Best Television Music Director award for the Zee TV show Lipstick. He is also a popular choice in some of the major youth festivals and university fests held across the country. Most recently he rocked the crowd at Mood Indigo held by IIT Mumbai and Raagam NIT Calicut.
